Balasore: Protesting against the delayed progress in ACF Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra death case, Khaira Nagarika Manch Thursday observed a 6-hour bandh, starting 6:00 am in Khaira of Balasore district. They demanded justice to the deceased ACF.
The members said that 59 days have gone and the investigative authorities have yet to settle the death case, citing the excessive delay. “We demand that the mystery be solved as soon as possible, and that the perpetrators be brought to justice,” they added.
The bandh from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm threw normal life out of gear. The traffic was off the road and markets, shops, commercial establishments downed their shutters.
Worth mentioning, Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra along with his wife were staying at his government quarters since their marriage in December last year. At about 9:30 pm Monday, their neighbours heard his wife screaming. They rushed to his house only to see Soumya Ranjan in flames. He was immediately rescued and rushed to the district headquarters hospital. Later, he was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur and then to a private hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated. The next day he succumbed to his burn injuries.
Then the deceased ACF’s father and uncle had alleged that the case was a pre-planned murder case. They had alleged wife Bidya, DFO Behera and cook Manmanth could be behind it.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch, which had previously assisted the police in their probe, is looking into the matter.
