On Sunday night in Miami, fans climbed over walls and into ventilation shafts to get into the Hard Rock Stadium hosting the Copa America final.
Ticketless fans forcing their way into the ground caused organisers to delay kick off, and there was chaos outside the stadium as gates closed to fans with valid tickets.
The match eventually got under way 75 minutes late and saw Argentina beat Colombia. Following the match, the Hard Rock Stadium said “unruly fans without tickets” had tried to break into the stadium, and at one point gates had been opened to all fans “to prevent stampedes and serious injury at the perimeter” – before being closed to everyone.
The stadium said it was “disappointed” some fans without tickets had not made it in, and it would work to “address those individual concerns”.
