78th Independence Day: On August 15, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the 78th Independence Day celebrations from Delhi’s iconic Red Fort. As part of the festivities, he will unfurl the National Flag and deliver his traditional address to the nation, highlighting key achievements and future goals. This year’s theme, ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, underscores the government’s vision to transform India into a fully developed nation by the centenary of its independence in 2047, reflecting a renewed commitment to progress and growth.
Independence Day 2024 was marked by a grand celebration at the historic Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership took center stage. In his address to the nation, PM Modi emphasized the importance of unity, progress, and national pride, reflecting on India’s remarkable journey since gaining independence. The event featured a vibrant display of cultural performances, military parades, and a tribute to the freedom fighters who shaped the nation’s destiny. PM Modi’s speech also outlined his vision for India’s future, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth as the pillars of the country’s ongoing development. Independence Day: Special Guests
To celebrate India’s 78th Independence Day and foster greater public participation, approximately 6,000 special guests from diverse backgrounds have been invited to join the festivities. These distinguished guests include young achievers, members of the tribal community, farmers, women, and others who have made remarkable strides with the support of various government schemes. Their presence highlights the nation’s commitment to recognizing and honoring the contributions of citizens from all walks of life, making this year’s Independence Day celebration a truly inclusive and inspiring event.
The Grand Ceremony at Red Fort
As the nation prepares to celebrate its 78th Independence Day, a grand ceremony will unfold at the iconic Red Fort in New Delhi. Upon his arrival, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be warmly welcomed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane. The Defence Secretary will then introduce Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, General Officer Commanding (GoC) of the Delhi Area, who will escort the Prime Minister to the Saluting Base. Here, a combined Inter-Services and Delhi Police Guard, under the coordination of the Indian Navy, will present a general salute.
This year, the Guard of Honour will be a carefully coordinated effort, featuring one officer and 24 personnel each from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Delhi Police. The Guard will be commanded by an impressive lineup of officers, including Commander Arun Kumar Mehta (Navy), Major Arjun Singh (Army), Lieutenant Commander Gulia Bhavesh NK (Navy), Squadron Leader Akshara Uniyal (Air Force), and Additional DCP Anurag Dwivedi (Delhi Police).
After the inspection of the Guard of Honour, Prime Minister Modi will proceed to the historic ramparts of the Red Fort. He will be received by senior officials, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The Prime Minister will then unfurl the National Flag, an act steeped in tradition, assisted by Lieutenant Sanjeet Saini. This moment will be synchronised with a majestic 21-gun salute by the 1721 Field Battery (Ceremonial), under the command of Major Sabnis Kaushik.
The National Flag Guard, consisting of personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Delhi Police, will present the Rashtriya Salute during the flag unfurling, with the Punjab Regiment Military Band, led by Subedar Major Rajinder Singh, playing the National Anthem. Following this, two Advanced Light Helicopters Dhruv of the Indian Air Force, piloted by Wing Commanders Amber Agarwal and Rahul Nainwal, will shower flower petals over the assembled crowd, adding to the splendor of the occasion.
The Prime Minister will then address the nation from the ramparts, marking the highlight of the Independence Day celebrations. The ceremony will conclude with a powerful rendition of the National Anthem, performed by 2,000 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets who will form the ‘My Bharat’ logo with tricolour kits. In addition, 500 National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers will also take part in the grand celebrations, symbolizing the unity and diversity of the nation.
