Is John Cena Retiring?
On July 6, John formally announced his retirement while appearing at WWE’s “Money in the Bank” event in Toronto. He began his speech by noting, “The 2025 Royal Rumble will be my last.”
“The 2025 Elimination Chamber will be my last,” he said. “And I’m here tonight to announce that in Las Vegas, WrestleMania 2025 will be the last I compete in.”
As the crowd reacted to his revelation, John continued, “Thank you so much for letting me play in the house that you built for so many years. Thank you so much always for your voice because it’s really loud, and your honesty because it’s beautifully brutal.”

Why Did John Cena Retire?
After speaking to his audience in Toronto, John told a group of reporters the reason why he was stepping away from the sport: he is “physically” at his “end.”
“I’ve always said to the audience that WWE is my home and I love it,” he began, before adding, “Just because I physically feel I’m at my end, doesn’t mean I need to distance myself from something I love.”
What Else Does John Cena Do for Work?
John has ventured down multiple paths in the entertainment business. Over the past several years, fans of John have seen him appear in different gigs on screen. After establishing himself as a WWE persona, the Massachusetts native appeared in a slew of films, including Train Wreck, The Wall and Bumblebee. Most recently, made a cameo in season 3 of Hulu’s The Bear.
In addition to his wrestling and acting career, John is also a rapper. He released his debut album, You Can’t See Me, in 2005.
