EXCLUSIVE: Stand-up comic Kyle Kinane has announced that his latest hour special, Dirt Nap, is now available for pre-order via 800 Pound Gorilla Media, also unveiling dates through November for his “It’s Not a Tour, It’s The Job” tour.
Check out a trailer for the special, available starting March 4, above. In it, Kinane folds detail upon detail to create elaborate origami narratives. When distilled to its essence, Dirt Nap delves into tolerance and returning to your roots, and as with Kinane’s previous releases, his biggest target is himself. Themes of cautious optimism and a cynical yet self-aware sense of hope permeate throughout. The crowd is left un-“worked” and free to enjoy the show, with Kinane’s only heckler being his own moral compass.
If one were curious as to how vegan quesadillas can relate to the inclusivity of the National Parks system, look no further. How does the Fast and The Furious franchise truly destroy the suspension of disbelief? Kinane has an idea. Downshifting from a life as an aging big city partier into a suburban father of a wayward cat gets dissected in a manner that will have everyone rethinking how their neighborhood views them.
Marking Kinane’s seventh hour-long special, Dirt Nap follows his acclaimed 2023 effort Shocks & Struts, which also premiered on 800 Pound Gorilla. Bobcat Goldthwait directed, with the taping taking place at Minneapolis’s Acme Comedy Club last September. Those looking to view the special on March 4th will have to pay $10, though it will also be made available for free via YouTube — albeit with commercials — on April 2 at 8:00 p.m. ET. As it livestreams there, Kinane will be hanging out to chat with fans online.
In a statement to Deadline, Kinane clarified the meaning behind the name of his latest tour, noting that he’s “not sure how to call traveling and performing comedy ‘touring.’ It’s perpetual. I’m not doing this to level up into a different career. Performing standup is what I do.” Tickets can be purchased via his website now.
In addition to his stand-up, Kinane is well known for his work as an actor. Previously, he’s been seen in the films Funny People and Izzy Gets the Fuck Across Town, as well as on series like Love and Workaholics. He is represented by Vector Management, UTA and Cohen & Gardner.
