‘Shrek 5’ Release Date
Fortunately, Dreamworks didn’t make fans wait for a release date. In the studio’s announcement, the sequel film was confirmed for a July 1, 2026, theatrical release.
What Is ‘Shrek 5’ About?
Plot details on the upcoming installment have not been revealed. However, Eddie teased how much of the film had already been recorded during a June 2024 with Collider.
“We started doing Shrek … 5 months ago. I did this, I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up,” the comedian revealed. “Shrek is coming out, and Donkey’s gonna have his own movie. We’re gonna do Donkey as well. So we’re gonna do a Shrek, and we’re doing a Donkey [movie].”
What Other ‘Shrek’ Movies Are Out?
After the first film was released in 2001, Shrek became a huge phenomenon that eventually led to three more movies. Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After, which came out in 2010. The Puss in Boots spinoffs was also produced, in addition to the upcoming Donkey film that Eddie teased.
Apart from the films, the franchise — which is based on William Steig’s 1990s children’s book of the same title — also inspired a stage production: Shrek The Musical.
How to Watch the Other ‘Shrek’ Movies
The first movie can be streamed on Netflix, while Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After can all be streamed on Peacock.
