Trailer Watch: “Julia” Child Doc Sees Betsy West & Julie Cohen Paying Tribute to a Revolutionary Cook


Julia Child transformed the way Americans cook, and her impact on the culinary would cannot be overstated. A new trailer for “Julia,” an upcoming doc about the trailblazer, emphasizes that she was “more than a cook — she was a cultural force.”

Described as the first “rockstar chef” and a “dynamic force that would not be silenced,” Childs fell in love with French cuisine and shared her passion stateside.

“Cooking was a world of men,” we’re told in the spot. “Women were basically part of the window dressing.” The TV personality and “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” author “changed everything” when she became a household name and inspired viewers with her accessible approach to cooking.

Child died in 2004. Meryl Streep received an Oscar nod for portraying her in the 2009 comedy “Julie & Julia.”

Directed by Oscar-nominated “RBG” helmers Betsy West and Julie Cohen, “Julia” features “never-before-seen archival footage, personal photos, first-person narratives, and cutting-edge, mouth-watering food cinematography,” according to the film’s synopsis. The doc doesn’t have a release date yet.
