Wipro: Wipro cuts 120 jobs in US, terms it “isolated incident”



Wipro is reportedly cutting some 120 jobs in Tampa, Florida, in the United States. According to a report in Channel Futures, the company cited “realignment of business needs” as the reason for the job cuts. The Wipro layoffs have reportedly been detailed in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. The cuts are only at one location in Tampa.
More than 100 of the impacted employees are said to be processing agents. The rest are team leaders and a team manager.
Wipro statement on job cuts
In a statement, Wipro termed these job cuts as an isolated incident. The company said, “Wipro has reduced headcount in Tampa due to a realignment of business needs. This is an isolated incident. Wipro remains deeply committed to the region. And all other Wipro employees serving clients in the Tampa area remain unaffected.”
With these job cuts, Wipro joins more than 20 companies doing business in the channel that have cut workers since the start of the year. The layoffs, which are permanent, will start in May.

Wipro has about 20,500 employees located across the United States, Canada and LATAM (Mexico and Brazil). Globally, the company has over 250,000 employees and business partners across 66 countries. Earlier this month, Wipro announced the opening of its Americas headquarters in East Brunswick, New Jersey. The Americas region makes up nearly 60% of Wipro’s global revenues.
Earlier this year, Wipro laid off more than 400 freshers for poor performance in internal assessment tests. The company has also reportedly cut salaries of fresh recruits. “From every entry level employee it is expected to have a certain level of proficiency in their designated area of work. The evaluation process includes to align employees with the requirements of clients and the business objectives of the organisation. This evaluation process, systematic and comprehensive, is followed by a series of actions such as mentoring, retraining and separation of employees from the company,” the company clarified on the layoffs.
