Shiv Sena functionary Rahool Kanal claimed on Saturday that BookMyShow had removed stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra from its artist and sales list. Kanal, who is the social media in-charge for the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, thanked BookMyShow CEO Ashish Hemrajani for keeping its platform “clean” by excluding Kamra, whom he described as an artist not aligned with “pure entertainment.”
When reached for comment, the BookMyShow team declined to provide any response.
In reaction to these claims, Kunal Kamra took to social media, asking BookMyShow to confirm whether he was still allowed to list his shows on their platform. “If not, it’s fine. I understand,” Kamra wrote on X. He also sarcastically thanked the platform, stating, “I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for your continued support of your team to take the said artist out of your sale and promotion listing. Thank you for even taking him out of the BookMyShow search history.”
Kanal, in his letter to Hemrajani, thanked BookMyShow for its decision and emphasized that the people of Mumbai appreciate all forms of art, but not personal agendas. He wrote, “Your personal touch and guidance by your team were invaluable in navigating and reaching a solution.”
The controversy stems from an earlier incident where Kanal, along with other Shiv Sainiks, was booked for allegedly vandalizing a studio where Kamra had performed. This escalated after Kamra made a comment that alluded to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, calling him a “traitor,” which sparked significant outrage.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police has issued three notices to Kamra, who is believed to be in Puducherry, requesting his personal appearance. However, he has reportedly skipped all of them.
