The monsoon session has been announced after opposition’s demand for a special session on Operation Sindoor was rejected.
The Union Government has announced that the Monsoon Session of Parliament will commence on July 21 and conclude on August 12, 2025. This session holds particular significance as it marks the first parliamentary gathering following ‘Operation Sindoor,’ a major counter-terrorism operation executed by India.
In the wake of Operation Sindoor, 16 parties from the INDIA bloc, including Congress, Samajwadi Party, DMK, and Trinamool Congress, have jointly written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a special session of Parliament. The letter calls for a discussion on Operation Sindoor, the ceasefire announcement, and recent terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the need to address the policy implications of these developments.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized Prime Minister Modi, urging him to avoid self-congratulatory remarks and instead address pressing national issues.
Kharge specifically called for a special session of Parliament to discuss Operation Sindoor, highlighting the Congress party’s insistence on parliamentary accountability and transparency.
In response to the opposition’s demands, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the schedule for the Monsoon Session, which will span a little over three weeks. The session is expected to address various legislative matters, including the introduction of 31 bills. However, the opposition parties have expressed concerns over the government’s reluctance to allow open discussions and its efforts to stifle dissent or minimize parliamentary proceedings.
