Deepika Padukone’s growing list of on-screen maternal roles continues to expand. Following her portrayals as a mother to Ranbir Kapoor in Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (2022), Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan (2023), and to Kalki in Kalki 2898 AD (2024), the acclaimed actress is now reportedly set to play the mother of Suhana Khan in the upcoming film King.
The project marks a significant full-circle moment in Padukone’s career. Launched by Shah Rukh Khan in the 2007 blockbuster Om Shanti Om, Deepika has since ascended to global stardom. Her rumored role in King, which will also feature Shah Rukh Khan and serve as Suhana Khan’s theatrical film debut, symbolizes a generational handoff—guiding the daughter of her first co-star into the cinematic spotlight.
Originally slated to be directed by Sujoy Ghosh, King is now being helmed by Siddharth Anand, known for directing Pathaan (2023) and Fighter (2024).
