The Kia Seltos, a popular SUV in the Indian market since its debut in 2019, has firmly established itself as a key player for the automaker. To sustain its market momentum, Kia is preparing to introduce a refreshed version of the Seltos, which is currently under development. The test mule of the next-generation Seltos has been spotted several times under heavy camouflage, effectively concealing its design. However, a recent Hyundai documentary appears to have inadvertently revealed the updated model.
Hyundai recently released a docuseries titled ‘The Great Heritage: Car,’ offering viewers a glimpse into the brand’s research and development center. The series is designed to showcase Hyundai’s R&D processes while maintaining strict confidentiality over future vehicle designs. However, in one particular scene at the 0:50 mark, an unidentified SUV appears in the background, unblurred and exposed.
Reports suggest that this SUV is the next-generation Kia Seltos, displayed in an undisguised form. The vehicle’s exterior design shows a more upright front fascia featuring vertically-oriented rectangular headlamps. Additionally, the SUV exhibits a blacked-out A-pillar, redesigned ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors), and prominent wheel arches that give it a more robust stance.
The rear of the vehicle also presents a noticeable design evolution from the current Seltos model. It includes a triangular rear quarter panel and a curved rear windshield, design elements reminiscent of Kia’s other models, such as the Sorento. The overall aesthetic suggests a more aggressive and contemporary look, aligning with Kia’s modern design language.
Beyond the exterior, powertrain enhancements are also expected for the next-generation Seltos. The automaker has previously confirmed that the new model will offer a hybrid powertrain, likely based on the existing 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This addition could potentially include an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system, further enhancing the SUV’s capabilities.
In addition to the hybrid variant, the Seltos is expected to retain its current engine options, including the turbocharged petrol and diesel units. The introduction of a hybrid powertrain signifies Kia’s push towards more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles while maintaining the dynamic performance that Seltos is known for.
The strategic inclusion of a hybrid powertrain could provide the Seltos with a competitive edge in the burgeoning hybrid SUV market segment, positioning it as a versatile option for consumers seeking both efficiency and power.
The anticipation surrounding the next-gen Seltos has been further fueled by the leaked visuals in Hyundai’s documentary. Although the automaker has not officially confirmed that the vehicle in the footage is the new Seltos, industry experts believe that the visible design cues align closely with Kia’s evolving design language. If these assumptions hold true, the next-generation Seltos could set new benchmarks in terms of both aesthetics and technological advancements.
Kia has yet to announce the official launch date for the updated Seltos. However, given the increasing frequency of sightings and the inadvertent leak in Hyundai’s documentary, industry analysts anticipate that the unveiling could occur sooner rather than later. With the prospect of a strong hybrid powertrain, AWD capabilities, and a bold new design, the next-generation Kia Seltos is poised to elevate the brand’s standing in the competitive SUV market, reinforcing its appeal to a diverse consumer base.
