Elon Musk slams Trump’s tax and spending bill as a ‘disgusting abomination’ shortly after stepping down as advisor, sparking a heated week-long feud.

Elon Musk Walks Back Criticism of Donald Trump, Signals Possible Reconciliation
After nearly a week of mudslinging and heated exchanges online, Elon Musk has taken a step back, softening his tone toward former U.S.
President Donald Trump. In a post on X, Musk acknowledged that some of his previous comments may have crossed a line.
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” Musk admitted.
The SpaceX and Tesla CEO, who briefly served as a “special government employee” leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for 130 days, had been tasked with cutting back what he described as excessive and wasteful federal programs. His recent remarks may now signal an effort to ease tensions and open the door to potential reconciliation.
Just days after stepping down from his role as a close advisor to Donald Trump and a special government employee, Elon Musk harshly criticized the sweeping tax cuts and spending bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination.
A Week-Long War of Words Between Elon Musk and Donald Trump Begins
The clash began with a fiery post from Elon Musk on X, where he lashed out at the latest Congressional spending bill.
“This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,” Musk wrote. “Shame on those who voted for it—you know you did wrong.”
His criticism didn’t stop there. A day later, Musk doubled down, calling for a complete overhaul of the bill. “No one who actually reads the bill should be able to stomach it,” he added.
In response to the billionaire’s remarks, a White House official brushed off the controversy, stating that the federal government “will not consult every policy decision with Elon Musk.
Musk Doubles Down: ‘Kill the Bill’
Elon Musk intensified his opposition to the proposed legislation, launching a fiery tirade and urging lawmakers to “kill the bill.” His determined push to see it scrapped underscores his growing frustration and firm stance against the measure.
In a post on X, Elon Musk criticized the new spending bill, calling it “the largest increase in the debt ceiling in U.S. history” and dubbing it the “Debt Slavery Bill.”
Responding for the first time to Musk’s remarks, Donald Trump defended the bill as “incredible” and admitted, “I don’t know if Elon and I will have a great relationship anymore.”
Trump suggested Musk’s frustration stemmed from the removal of consumer tax credits for electric vehicles, saying, “Elon is upset because we scrapped the EV mandate.” He also pointed to the withdrawal of a NASA leadership nominee backed by Musk as another possible reason for the tech billionaire’s discontent.
Elon and I had a great relationship—at least we used to. I’m not sure where things stand now. Honestly, I was surprised,” former President Donald Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
“I’m very disappointed. Elon understood the details of this bill better than almost anyone in the room. Then, out of nowhere, he had an issue with it. You saw someone who was happy to be here, standing behind the Resolute Desk—even with a black eye. I even joked, ‘Want a little makeup? We can fix that.’”
Trump added that, in his view, Republicans would have secured a win in Pennsylvania if not for Elon Musk.
Elon Musk Hits Back at Trump Amid Escalating Feud
Responding to Donald Trump’s recent comments in Pennsylvania, Elon Musk fired back, saying, “Without me, Trump would have lost the election. Democrats would control the House, and the Republicans would be 51–49 in the Senate. Such ingratitude.”
As the war of words escalated, shares of Tesla Inc. took a hit.
Adding fuel to the fire, Trump hinted on Thursday that he might revoke U.S. government contracts and subsidies granted to Musk’s companies, including SpaceX and Tesla, in response to their ongoing clash over tax and spending policies.
Elon Musk stirred controversy once again—this time taking aim at Donald Trump.
It began with Musk responding “yes” to a post on X that called for Trump’s impeachment. He then followed up with a warning: Trump’s proposed tariffs could trigger a recession in the latter half of the year.
But what came next was explosive.

In the midst of an escalating feud with the former president, Musk made a shocking claim—alleging that Trump’s name appears in the infamous Epstein files, and that this, he says, is the real reason those documents remain sealed.
“Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT,” Musk posted on X.
He added, “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”
The post is particularly striking coming from Musk, who once appeared at Trump’s rallies during the presidential campaign, seemingly in support of the Republican leader.
After making a provocative comment suggesting that Donald Trump was delaying the release of Jeffrey Epstein-related files due to his own involvement, Elon Musk appeared to pivot toward de-escalation.
However, Trump wasn’t ready to extend an olive branch. According to a White House insider, the former president had no interest in speaking with Musk.
Fast forward to June 10: Elon Musk now seems to be making a concerted effort to mend fences. He reacted to a video of Trump saying, “I wish him [Elon Musk] well,” by dropping a heart emoji. Just a day later, Musk publicly expressed regret over some of his past remarks about Trump.
