In a twist, after a couple serving in the Indian Air Force was assaulted in Bengaluru, a new video has emerged showing one of them thrashing the alleged attacker. Police now confirm that both sides attacked each other, indicating the incident was not one-sided.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Devaraj D, addressed growing speculation online, emphasizing that this was not a “Kannadigas vs non-Kannadigas” incident. This clarification came after a video shared by Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose—his face and neck covered in blood—went viral, stirring public outrage.
In his video, Wing Commander Bose claimed that a biker approached their car early morning, hurled abuses in Kannada, and attacked him after spotting the DRDO sticker on their vehicle. His wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita Bose, was driving him to the airport from DRDO Colony in CV Raman Nagar at the time.
“A bike came from behind and stopped our car… the guy started abusing me in Kannada… when he saw the DRDO sticker, he said ‘You DRDO people’ and started abusing my wife and me. When I got out, he hit me with a key on the forehead,” the officer alleged.
However, new footage shows a more complex situation. The accused, Vikas Kumar, wearing a green neon jacket, is seen being pushed and grabbed by the officer while his wife tries to pull him away. Moments later, the officer punches the man, who falls to the ground and kicks back. Bystanders are seen intervening in an effort to stop the fight.
Multiple CCTV videos of the altercation show both the officer and the accused engaged in aggressive behavior. Bose also alleged that the man attempted to smash a stone against their car window, which instead hit him on the head.
Squadron Leader Madhumita Bose later filed an official complaint, saying the biker had been riding recklessly and nearly collided with their car. She said that after she looked at him, he sped ahead, stopped their vehicle, and began shouting and threatening them.
“I told my husband to stay in the car, but the man came back, pulled him out, and a mob joined in the assault,” she said.
Meanwhile, Vikas Kumar also filed a counter-complaint, claiming he merely reacted to something he overheard and approached the officer for clarification before things turned physical.
“This is a case of road rage. Both sides attacked each other,” DCP Devaraj said. “The officer was advised to get first aid before filing an FIR, but he left due to a flight. We later contacted his wife and registered the complaint.”
In his video, Bose criticized the lack of police response. “This is what Karnataka has become. I couldn’t believe it… God give me the strength not to retaliate,” he said.
The investigation is underway, with police reviewing video evidence to determine the full context of the incident.
