On March , 2025, a woman of Indian origin was violently assaulted at Calgary’s City Hall/Bow Valley College CTrain station. The assailant, identified as 31-year-old Braydon Joseph James French, approached the victim around 1:40 p.m., grabbed her water bottle, splashed water on her face, seized her jacket, and slammed her against the transit shelter walls multiple times while demanding her phone.
Despite bystanders witnessing the attack, none intervened. French fled the scene without obtaining the phone, allowing the victim to contact authorities. Woman
With assistance from witnesses, police apprehended French approximately 25 minutes later in the East Village area. He has been charged with one count of attempted robbery.
Authorities currently do not believe the incident was racially motivated; however, the Calgary Police Service’s Diversity Resource Team is engaging with the affected community to provide support.
