Gujarat Titans pacer Ishant Sharma has been slapped with a 25% fine of his match fees and has earned a demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. According to a statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sharma admitted to committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. The statement further clarified that for breaches of the Code of Conduct at Level 1, the decision of the Match Referee is final and binding.
Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct addresses actions involving the abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground equipment, and fixtures during a match. It also covers any actions outside normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets, or actions that intentionally or recklessly cause damage to fixtures like advertising boards, boundary fences, or dressing room doors.
While Sharma faced the fine, his team, Gujarat Titans, secured a dominant seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, completing a hat-trick of victories and rising to second place on the IPL 2025 points table.
Mohammad Siraj, named Player of the Match, continued his excellent form with a career-best 4-17, helping restrict SRH to a total of 152/8. Despite the team’s success, Ishant Sharma was the most expensive bowler for GT, conceding 53 runs in his four overs without claiming a wicket.
In reply, Gujarat Titans chased down the target of 153 with ease, led by captain Shubman Gill, who remained unbeaten on 60 off 42 balls. Contributions from Washington Sundar and Sherfane Rutherford further helped GT reach the target with 20 deliveries to spare.
