In a bizarre real-life plot twist, a man who had spent years behind bars for allegedly murdering his wife was left in utter disbelief when she reappeared, very much alive and walking hand-in-hand with her lover. This shocking turn of events unfolded in Basavanahalli village in Kushalnagar Taluk, Kodagu District, Karnataka, where Suresh, a local man, once lived a peaceful life with his wife, Mallige, until she mysteriously disappeared in 2019.
Suresh, desperate to find his wife, reached out to family and friends, hearing rumors of an alleged extramarital affair. Despite the heartbreak, he attempted to contact Mallige, urging her to stay in touch for the sake of their children, but she never responded. Fearing he might be wrongfully implicated in her disappearance, Suresh filed a missing person report with the Kushalnagar Police in 2021.
However, what followed was a series of cruel twists.
In 2022, police informed Suresh that his wife’s remains had been found near Bettadapura in Periyapatna Taluk. Accompanied by his mother-in-law, Suresh was shown a skeleton and was told it was Mallige’s. Devastated, he performed her last rites, believing that his wife had tragically passed away.
But things took a shocking turn when the authorities, suspecting foul play, accused Suresh of murdering Mallige. Despite his repeated denials and shock, he was arrested and imprisoned.
It wasn’t until later, after a forensic DNA test of the remains revealed no genetic match to Mallige’s family, that the truth began to emerge. Suresh was exonerated and released from prison.
Fast forward to April 1, 2025, when the unimaginable happened: Suresh’s friends spotted Mallige alive and well in Madikeri, checking into a hotel with her lover. Shocked, they quickly took photos and informed the authorities. Police took immediate action, detaining Mallige and presenting her in court in Mysuru.
This strange and unsettling series of events has left the small village of Basavanahalli in disbelief, as Suresh tries to come to terms with the years he lost to a crime he never committed.
