New Delhi: A video showing a man openly drinking alcohol and eating eggs inside a moving Delhi Metro train has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism and raising serious concerns about the enforcement of rules and discipline in the capital’s public transport system.
In the now-viral footage, the man is seen sitting casually on a seat inside the metro coach, with a liquor bottle in hand and a plate of eggs placed beside him. Seemingly unbothered by his surroundings, he consumes the food and drink while fellow passengers appear shocked or avoid engaging with him.
The video, reportedly filmed by a co-passenger, has since triggered a wave of reactions online. Many users expressed outrage over the blatant disregard for public decency and questioned how such behavior could go unchecked in a high-security zone like the Delhi Metro.
“This is absolutely unacceptable. Delhi Metro is supposed to be a safe and clean mode of transport. Where are the authorities?” one user commented on X (formerly Twitter). Others demanded stricter patrolling and increased surveillance in metro trains to prevent such incidents.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued a brief statement acknowledging the video and assuring the public that strict action would be taken against the individual. “We do not tolerate any kind of misconduct inside metro premises. Such actions are a violation of DMRC rules and appropriate legal action will be pursued,” the statement read.
Drinking alcohol, eating, and causing public nuisance are all punishable offenses under the Delhi Metro Rail (Operation and Maintenance) Act. Passengers are typically fined or penalized for such behavior, though enforcement has been a growing concern in recent months.
This incident has reignited the conversation around public transport etiquette and the need for stronger vigilance. Regular commuters have urged the DMRC to increase staff presence inside trains and install more functional CCTV systems to monitor and deter such actions.
As of now, it is unclear whether the man has been identified or apprehended. Authorities are reportedly analyzing CCTV footage and social media posts to track him down.
The Delhi Metro, one of the busiest metro systems in the world, has long been praised for its cleanliness and efficiency. Incidents like this, however, threaten to undermine the sense of safety and decorum that millions of commuters rely on daily.
