The tremor, which hit late in the evening, led to significant structural damage, with dramatic scenes of water cascading from high-rise buildings like waterfalls capturing global attention.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake’s epicenter was located in a remote region of Myanmar, but its impact was felt across major cities, including Yangon and Mandalay. “I was on the 10th floor when the entire building started moving. Suddenly, we heard a loud crashing sound, and water started gushing down from above,” said a Yangon resident who experienced the quake firsthand.
