An Indore couple on their honeymoon went missing on May 23. The husband’s body has been recovered, while the search for the missing wife is still ongoing.
The mysterious murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, a tourist from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has left the Meghalaya police baffled. Adding to the intrigue, Raja’s mother received a voice message from his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi—who has now gone missing—deepening the puzzle for investigators.
Multiple agencies were involved in the investigation, and on Monday, authorities discovered the body of Raja Raghuvanshi. Police were able to identify him by a distinctive tattoo on his arm.
On the same day the couple went missing, Raja’s mother received a voice message from Sonam—her last known contact. In the recording, Sonam sounds out of breath as she tells her mother-in-law that they were trekking to a waterfall. She also insists on continuing her religious fast despite the circumstances. As reported by the Times of India, the call ended abruptly, marking the final time anyone heard from her.
According to officials, the coat recovered by rescuers appears to have an unidentified stain, though they have not confirmed whether it is blood. Authorities are currently working to determine if the coat belongs to Sonam.

Multiple agencies continued their search on Wednesday through the rugged, forested landscape of Meghalaya for a missing woman whose husband was found murdered earlier this week.
The body of the newly-wed man was discovered near the Weisawdong Falls on Monday. Investigators have since recovered a smashed mobile phone and a machete from a nearby gorge, intensifying suspicions as the search for his missing wife presses on.

Authorities have registered a homicide case in connection with the incident, describing Sonam Raghuvanshi’s disappearance as baffling.
“It’s highly unusual — we recovered Raja’s body, yet there’s absolutely no sign of Sonam,” said Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem. “It’s as if she vanished into thin air, despite an extensive and tireless search operation.
Foul play is now being suspected in the case, with investigators increasingly convinced that Raja Raghuvanshi’s death was not accidental. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to conduct a thorough probe into the incident.
The scooter rented by the couple was discovered abandoned in Sohrarim, approximately 25 kilometers from the gorge. Notably, the key was still in the ignition. Rescue efforts to locate the couple were severely hampered by heavy rainfall and strong winds over the past week.
On Monday, a police drone discovered the body of Raja Raghuvanshi deep within a gorge. Scattered near the scene were a white shirt, some medicine, a fragment of a phone screen, and a smartwatch. Authorities identified the body through a distinctive tattoo on his right hand that read “Raja.”
