“Mumbai Police on alert after WhatsApp threat from ‘Lashkar-e-Jihadi’ claims 34 vehicles loaded with 400 kg RDX could kill 1 crore on Anant Chaturdashi.”

Mumbai on High Alert After WhatsApp Terror Threat Ahead of Anant Chaturdashi

34 Human Bombs and 400 kg of RDX: What the Threat Claims”

Mumbai Police are on high alert following a chilling WhatsApp message received on their Traffic Police helpline on September 5, 2025. The message, purportedly sent by a group identifying itself as “Lashkar-e-Jihadi,” claimed that 34 vehicles across the city had been rigged with “human bombs” carrying 400 kg of RDX, and warned the explosions could kill one crore people. This threat coincides with Anant Chaturdashi, marking the culmination of the 10-day Ganesh festival and the final ceremonies for idol immersion.

“Immediate Security Response Across Mumbai”

In response, Mumbai Police have significantly ramped up security measures citywide. Patrols, drone surveillance, and bomb disposal squads have been deployed around key locations, including immersion points, crowded areas, and main transit hubs. Cyber and anti-terror units are actively tracing the message’s origin and evaluating its credibility. Authorities are treating the threat with utmost seriousness despite no confirmed evidence of actual explosive devices.

This incident comes after a series of threat notifications received in recent weeks, including warnings about potential attacks on transit hubs and public spaces. While many prior alerts have turned out to be hoaxes, police continue to act with caution—especially during festival periods when crowds swell.

Mumbai Police have appealed to residents and festival-goers to remain calm and vigilant. They’ve urged the public not to spread unverified rumors and to immediately report any suspicious behavior, vehicles, or objects to authorities.

“Context & RDX: Why This Threat Demands Attention”

RDX (Research Department Explosive) is a potent military-grade explosive known for its high detonation velocity—around 8,750 m/s—and its extensive use in historical terrorist attacks, including prior bombings in India. Even though 400 kg is a massive amount, the actual damage potential depends on containment, placement, and detonation method. Mumbai’s law enforcement and intelligence agencies recognize the gravity of using RDX and are coordinating investigations accordingly.

“What Lies Ahead for Mumbai”

With Anant Chaturdashi scheduled for September 6, the city is entering a critical security phase. Devotees throng Mumbai’s streets, especially areas like Lalbaugcha Raja, for the immersion rituals. Police have activated layered security zoning—including checkpoints, surveillance zones, and rapid response teams—to address threats and ensure seamless crowd management.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities remain wary of potential copycat or misleading threats but are fully mobilized to prevent any harm. Public cooperation through vigilance and timely reporting remains vital to maintaining safety during this high-stakes festival period.
