Mumbai Traffic Police Issues Detailed Advisory on Elphinstone Bridge Closure and Diversions

The Mumbai Traffic Police has released a comprehensive traffic advisory ahead of the scheduled closure of the Elphinstone Bridge from April 10. The bridge will remain shut for the next two years due to infrastructural developments. In light of the prolonged closure, authorities have implemented extensive traffic diversions and designated no-parking zones across key areas to mitigate congestion and ensure smooth vehicular movement.

West and East Bound Diversions

To manage traffic flow in both westbound and eastbound directions, multiple diversion routes have been outlined:

Westbound Traffic Diversions:

  • For Dadar West-bound Traffic: Vehicles will take a right turn from Madkebuwa Chowk (Parel TT Junction), continue along Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road, turn left from Khodadad Circle (Dadar TT Junction), and proceed via Tilak Bridge to the intended destination.
  • For Prabhadevi and Worli-bound Traffic: Vehicles will proceed from Madkebuwa Chowk via Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road to Krishna Nagar Junction, Parel Workshop, Supari Bagh Junction, and Bharat Mata Junction. From there, vehicles will turn right and proceed via Mahadev Palav Road, cross the Currey Road Railway Bridge, turn right at Shingte Master Chowk, and continue via Lower Parel Bridge.
  • An alternative route involves proceeding to Sant Jagnade Chowk, turning right onto Sane Guruji Road, crossing the Chinchpokli Railway Bridge, and reaching the destination via NM Joshi Road.

Eastbound Traffic Diversions:

  • For Parel-bound Vehicles from Elphinstone Bridge: Vehicles will continue from Sant Rohidas Chowk (Elphinstone Junction), take a left at Wadacha Naka Junction, proceed via Lower Parel Bridge, then take a left from Shingte Master Chowk, continue via Mahadev Palav Road, cross Currey Road Bridge, and proceed to Bharat Mata Junction.
  • Another option directs vehicles from Chinchpokli Junction through Sane Guruji Road, Chinchpokli Bridge, and Sant Jagnade Chowk to reach Parel.
  • From Sayani Road/SL Matkar Road: Vehicles will take a right from Sant Rohidas Chowk to Wadacha Naka Junction, turn left towards Lower Parel Bridge, and follow the Mahadev Palav Road route.
  • From Senapati Bapat Road to Sion/Matunga: Take a left onto VS Matkar Road and Bapurao Parulekar Road, then right at Hanuman Mandir Circle and Kotwal Garden, proceeding to Khodadad Circle.

Mahadev Palav Road Traffic Schedule:

  • 7 AM to 3 PM: One-way traffic from Bharat Mata Junction to Shingte Master Chowk.
  • 3 PM to 11 PM: Reverse flow from Shingte Master Chowk to Bharat Mata Junction.
  • 11 PM to 7 AM: The road will be open for two-way traffic.

Pedestrian Movement:

Pedestrians have been advised to use the dedicated railway pedestrian bridge connecting Prabhadevi and Parel stations, located near One International Centre, to travel safely between the east and west zones.

The traffic department urges commuters to follow the revised routes and guidelines strictly to avoid inconvenience and ensure public safety during the bridge’s closure period.
