Evacuated from Iran, relieved passengers chanted ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and ‘Hindustan Zindabad’ upon landing at Delhi airport, expressing Return Safely Under Operation Sindhu; 2 Flights Land in Delhi

Hundreds of Indians Evacuated from Iran Land Safely in Delhi under Operation Sindhu

Two special flights carrying Indian nationals evacuated from Iran have landed safely in New Delhi as part of Operation Sindhu,

India’s ongoing mission to bring home its citizens amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. The operation became possible after Tehran temporarily eased its airspace restrictions.

The first flight, carrying 290 Indians, arrived early Friday morning. A second flight followed, landing on Saturday. As passengers disembarked at Delhi airport, many were visibly relieved and emotional, breaking into patriotic chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Hindustan Zindabad.”

Operation Sindhu continues as India closely monitors the regional situation to ensure the safety of its citizens abroad.

Amid the intensifying Israel-Iran conflict, emotional returnees — including students and religious pilgrims — expressed deep gratitude to the Indian government for facilitating their safe evacuation.

Tazkiya Fatima, a resident of Noida, shared her experience of the tense atmosphere in Iran and commended the seamless coordination by Indian authorities that ensured their timely and secure return.

There was a war-like situation, and we were really uncertain about how we would get out safely. But the Government of India handled everything very efficiently and made the entire evacuation process smooth. I’m truly grateful to the Indian government. I’m a resident of Noida,” she said.

Eliya Batool, one of the evacuees, shared her overwhelming sense of relief upon returning home. “I can’t even express what I’m feeling right now,” she said. “My family was extremely worried. While we felt safe and were well taken care of in Iran — even staying in a 5-star hotel — it’s only after coming back to India that we truly feel at ease. I’m deeply thankful to the Indian government for this.”

Maulana Mohammad Saeed Saeed expressed his gratitude for the safe evacuation of Indian citizens, saying:
“We are truly happy and thankful to have returned home safely. The situation in Iran is difficult, as we all know. The Indian Embassy and our Ambassador ensured the evacuation process was smooth and secure. We deeply appreciate their efforts in bringing us back without any trouble.

Mir Mohammad Musharraf, a resident of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, expressed his gratitude towards the Indian government, saying:

“I am from Pulwama, Kashmir. Operation Sindhu was truly remarkable and extremely helpful. The services provided were excellent. When we were stranded in Tehran and unsure of what to do—especially after even our landlords had left—it was our embassy that came to our rescue. They guided us and ensured our safe return. I’m deeply thankful to the Indian government for their support and efforts.

Following the easing of airspace restrictions by Iran, a special flight carrying 290 Indian nationals—primarily students—safely landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport late Friday night. The flight touched down at 11:30 PM IST and was received by Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary (Consular, Passport, Visa & Overseas Indian Affairs).

Iran had closed its airspace indefinitely after Israel launched airstrikes on multiple targets across the country, including the capital city, Tehran, on June 13.
