Rassie van der Dussen named South Africa’s captain for upcoming T20I tri-series, bringing experience and leadership to the squad.

Rassie van der Dussen is set to captain a revamped and understrength South African squad for the upcoming T20I tri-series in Harare, which includes New Zealand and Zimbabwe.
With regular skipper Aiden Markram and several other first-choice players rested for workload management, Van der Dussen will take on the leadership role for the series.
Promising young opener Lhuan-dre Pretorius, the leading run-scorer in this year’s SA20, has earned his first national call-up. Corbin Bosch, who has already represented South Africa in ODIs and Tests, is set to make his T20I debut. Joining them are Rubin Hermann, who caught the eye with strong performances in the SA20, and Senuran Muthusamy, a seasoned player in the other two formats, as the remaining uncapped players selected for the series.

South Africa have received a significant boost with the return of fast bowlers Nandre Burger and Gerald Coetzee. Both pacers, who were sidelined with long-term injuries, are now back in action and currently featuring in Major League Cricket (MLC). Adding to the positive news, Dewald Brevis is also set for a comeback, marking his first appearance for South Africa in nearly two years.
This upcoming tri-series marks Shukri Conrad’s first T20I assignment since being appointed as South Africa’s all-format head coach. The series is set to begin on July 14, with South Africa facing hosts Zimbabwe in the opening match. The final is slated for July 26.
This T20I tri-series signals the beginning of our build-up to next year’s T20 World Cup,” Conrad said. “With a number of senior players rested as part of workload management, it opens the door for others to step in, showcase their skills, and stake a claim for World Cup selection.
Lhuan-dre and Rubin have earned their spots through exceptional performances in the SA20, and we’re eager to see how they transition to the international stage. We’re already familiar with Corbin’s capabilities at this level, and we’re looking forward to seeing how his skills in Tests and ODIs will adapt to the pace and demands of T20I cricket.”
