Bengaluru, April 19 – In a scene straight out of a cricketing fairy tale, fans gathered outside the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium were sent into a frenzy after mistaking a passionate Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fan for the team’s latest signing — all because he emerged from the official RCB team bus dressed head-to-toe in squad gear.
The incident occurred just hours before RCB’s home game, when the team’s convoy pulled up to the stadium to roaring cheers. Amid the flurry of players stepping off the bus, one individual caught the crowd’s eye — not because of his fame, but because he looked like he belonged. Dressed in the official RCB jersey, pants, and even team-issued backpack, the man confidently exited the bus, instantly drawing camera flashes and chants of “RCB! RCB!”
Unbeknownst to the fans, the mystery “new signing” was actually a die-hard supporter named Rahul, who had won a behind-the-scenes contest hosted by RCB’s fan engagement team. As part of the prize, Rahul was allowed to travel with the team from their hotel to the stadium — an experience meant to give him a taste of the life of a professional cricketer.
However, no one anticipated the level of authenticity he brought to the moment.
“I didn’t expect to be treated like a player,” said Rahul, grinning from ear to ear. “People were asking for selfies, some even congratulated me on my ‘selection’ — it was surreal!”
Security personnel and team officials quickly clarified the situation, but not before Rahul had enjoyed a few minutes in the limelight, living every cricket fan’s dream.
Social media exploded with videos and photos of the moment, with many fans praising the franchise for creating such immersive fan experiences. Some even joked that given RCB’s current form, “maybe he should get a game too!”
While Rahul may not be making his IPL debut anytime soon, for one glorious moment outside Chinnaswamy, he was the star of the show — a reminder of the magic that cricket holds, especially in a city that bleeds red and gold.
