Navi Mumbai: One Dead, Two Injured After Speeding Car Rams Bike on Mumbai-Goa Highway
A 28-year-old woman died and two others, including a 10-year-old child, sustained serious injuries after a speeding car collided with their motorcycle on the Mumbai-Goa highway flyover in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Aditi Singh, a resident of Vile Parle. The injured, Salman Shah (27) and Gauri Khairnar (10), both residents of Ulwe, were part of a group returning from a visit to the Karnala Bird Sanctuary, according to information provided to police by their family members.
The incident occurred around 12 p.m. when the group was traveling along the flyover and searching for a restaurant for lunch. A car, allegedly speeding and approaching from the opposite direction, lost control, jumped the divider, and struck their two-wheeler, police officials said.
All three victims were initially rushed to MGM Hospital in Kamothe. Singh succumbed to her injuries on Monday, while Shah and Khairnar, whose conditions were critical, were later transferred to Apollo Hospital in Belapur for advanced treatment.
The driver of the car has been identified as Harshad Jain (31), a resident of Revdanda and a Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) agent. Jain was traveling towards Mumbai at the time of the accident. He has been booked for rash and negligent driving and for endangering human life under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Senior Inspector Gajanan Ghadge confirmed that the vehicle involved in the accident has been seized and a legal notice has been issued to the driver.
