Telangana Youth Scales Manipur’s Highest Peak to Raise Awareness on Drug Abuse and Betting Addiction
Imphal:
Bhukya Yashwanth, a 20-year-old mountaineer and B.Com student from Telangana, recently summited Mount Iso (also known as Mount Tempu), Manipur’s highest peak located in Senapati district, as part of a mission to raise awareness against drug abuse and the growing menace of online betting applications.
In the past 10 days, Yashwanth has also climbed Betlingchhip (Thaidawr), the highest peak in Tripura, and Mount Gorichen in Arunachal Pradesh. His campaign, titled ‘Har Shikhar Par Tiranga’, aims to hoist the national flag atop the highest peak in every Indian state while spreading socially relevant messages.
Sharing his motivation, Yashwanth told PTI, “I’ve seen how betting apps and drug addiction are affecting countless people across the country. I want to combine my passion for mountaineering with a mission to promote awareness and inspire positive change.”
Yashwanth climbed Mount Iso, which rises to nearly 3,000 metres, with the support of two Assam Rifles officers. He expressed gratitude for their assistance, noting that their presence made the expedition especially meaningful. “The terrain was steep and the weather challenging, but the journey was fulfilling. Every summit I complete is a tribute to the Tiranga and the spirit of India.”
Having taken up mountaineering at the age of 16, Yashwanth previously climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa in 2021. He is now heading to Mizoram to continue his campaign and plans to summit the highest peaks in all northeastern states in the coming days.
“Let’s choose health, purpose, and integrity over shortcuts and distractions. These vices not only harm individuals but also impact families. Through this initiative, I hope to inspire others to live with purpose,” Yashwanth added.
