Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of breaching a declared Easter ceasefire, stating that despite Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement, Ukrainian territories continued to face shelling and drone strikes. Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, calling them a clear violation of the temporary truce meant to honor the religious holiday. In response, the Kremlin has denied any ceasefire violations, dismissing the allegations as misinformation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of violating a unilateral ceasefire announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin for the Easter period. Despite Moscow’s claims of a temporary halt in hostilities, Zelenskyy stated that Russian forces continued their attacks in various regions across Ukraine.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Zelenskyy said,
“As of Easter morning, we can say that the Russian army is trying to create a general impression of a ceasefire, but in some places, it does not abandon individual attempts to advance and inflict losses on Ukraine.”
The accusation comes after President Putin declared a temporary truce to coincide with the Orthodox Easter celebrations. However, Ukrainian officials have reported ongoing military activity, suggesting the ceasefire was not fully observed on the ground.
The international community has yet to officially respond to the alleged violations, but Zelenskyy’s comments underscore the fragile nature of any proposed ceasefire in the ongoing conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Sunday morning that, despite Russian President Vladimir Putin’s declaration of an Easter ceasefire, Ukrainian forces recorded 59 incidents of Russian shelling and five direct assaults along the front line. Additionally, Ukraine reported dozens of drone strikes carried out by Russian forces, signaling ongoing hostilities despite the announced truce.

Ukrainian President Condemns Alleged Strikes as ‘PR Stunt’ Amid Accusations from Both Sides”
Amid fresh reports of strikes, Ukrainian President has dismissed the actions as mere publicity, while Moscow has also accused Kyiv of multiple breaches, escalating tensions further.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has strongly criticized the Easter ceasefire declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling it a “fake PR exercise” and highlighting continued Russian military aggression along the frontline.
According to an official report from Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Russian forces continued their attacks despite the truce, using heavy artillery and drones across multiple regions. Zelenskyy stated that since 10 a.m. on Sunday, there had been a noticeable surge in Russian shelling.
By 6 p.m. UK time, the Ukrainian military had recorded over 2,000 violations of the ceasefire by Russian troops, with 67 assaults reported across various frontline sectors.
“Russia has failed to uphold its own promise of a ceasefire across all main frontline directions,” Zelenskyy posted on social media.
He also expressed disappointment over Russia’s lack of response to Ukraine’s proposal for a 30-day full ceasefire, emphasizing that such silence proves Moscow’s intention to continue the violence and prolong the war.
The 30-hour ceasefire announced by Putin on Friday is set to expire at midnight on Sunday (2100 GMT).
The U.S. State Department has expressed support for extending the current ceasefire in Ukraine, as clashes continue despite Russia’s prior commitments. However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that President Vladimir Putin has not issued any formal directive to prolong the ceasefire.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a recent social media statement, accused Russia of violating its self-imposed ceasefire during the Easter period. He emphasized that Ukrainian forces are documenting every breach and are ready to share the evidence with international partners.
“In practice, either Putin does not have full control over his army, or this proves Russia has no real intention of ending the war,” Zelenskyy said. “They are only interested in gaining favorable PR, creating a false impression of a ceasefire while continuing selective attacks.”
Tragically, Zelenskyy later confirmed that several Ukrainian soldiers were killed in an ambush near Toretsk in the Donetsk oblast. Battlefield footage has emerged showing continued Russian shelling in eastern Ukraine, with smoke visible over Uspenivka village in the Pokrovsk region.
Further reports revealed that a civilian evacuation convoy was targeted by Russian drone strikes in the village of Zoria, near Kostiantynivka. The attack injured at least two civilians and a rescue worker from the Proliska aid agency.

April 21, 2025 – Frontline Report from Ukraine
As the war in Ukraine rages on, Ukrainian forces continue to face relentless attacks despite a so-called ceasefire declared by Russia. According to Denys Bobkov, spokesperson for Ukraine’s 37th Separate Marine Brigade, Sunday was marked by heavy shelling and multiple drone strikes near the frontline village of Novopavlivka, located southwest of Pokrovsk along the administrative border of Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
“For us, it’s just another day of war – with shelling from various types of weapons and even one attempt to assault our positions,” Bobkov said in a message to The Guardian.
16 Drone Attacks, 2 Artillery Strikes
By 2 p.m. Sunday, Bobkov’s brigade had recorded at least 16 drone attacks and two artillery barrages. The intensity of the attacks highlights the ongoing volatility in the region, as Ukrainian marines hold the line against advancing Russian forces.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s 66th Brigade, stationed in the city of Lyman, reported multiple infantry assaults and enemy efforts to rebuild damaged river crossings. “The Russians are using the so-called ‘lull’ to improve their tactical position – to regroup in order to deliver another blow,” the unit reported.
