Uttarkashi | May 8 – In a heart-wrenching incident that has left the entire state in mourning, a private helicopter carrying seven passengers crashed near Gangnani in Uttarkashi district on Thursday morning. The chopper was en route from Dehradun’s Sahastradhara helipad to Harshil when it went down under unknown circumstances.
Five people were killed on the spot, while two others sustained critical injuries and are currently receiving emergency medical treatment. Rescue teams rushed to the crash site soon after receiving the alert, and authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
Heartbreaking incident, a privately-operated helicopter carrying a group of tourists crashed into a steep gorge near Gangnani, a region known for its breathtaking yet treacherous terrain. The chopper took off around 9 a.m. but tragically went down into a ravine estimated to be 200 to 250 meters deep.
Onboard were tourists identified as Vinit Gupta, Arvind Agarwal, Vipin Agarwal, Pinki Agarwal, Rashmi, and Kishore Jadhav. The helicopter was being piloted by Robin Singh. The ill-fated flight was operated by a private aviation company and was en route over the scenic Himalayan region when the crash occurred.

Six passengers were identified among the victims of a recent crash — four from Mumbai and two from Andhra Pradesh, according to official sources. The accident prompted an immediate response from local residents and emergency personnel.
Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Quick Response Teams (QRTs), and medical services rushed to the scene and launched a swift rescue operation. Police officers Naveen Kumar from Bhatwadi and Pushar Jeena from Ujeli led their teams to the site, coordinating with rescue forces.
The SDRF successfully traced the wreckage deep within a gorge and began a difficult recovery mission amid treacherous conditions. Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the crash, as a detailed investigation is currently underway.

Expressing profound grief over the incident, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a swift recovery for those injured. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister stated:
“Got the news of some casualties in a helicopter crash near Gangani in Uttarkashi. SDRF and district administration teams have immediately reached the spot for relief and rescue work.”

I have directed the administration to extend every possible help to the injured and to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. I am in constant touch with officials and monitoring the situation closely.”
