Indian cricket stars Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana delivered stellar performances throughout 2024, leaving an indelible mark on the sport. Both players not only showcased exceptional skill and consistency but also shattered several long-standing records, drawing praise from fans and cricketing legends worldwide. Their achievements have set new benchmarks in both men’s and women’s cricket, making 2024 a memorable year for Indian cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana have achieved a historic double in the latest edition of the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, published on Tuesday. Bumrah has been named the Men’s Leading Cricketer in the World, while Mandhana has earned the title of Women’s Leading Cricketer in the World, celebrating their outstanding contributions and consistent performances throughout the year.

This recognition from Wisden, widely regarded as the “Bible of Cricket,” highlights the global impact of both Indian stars on the sport. Bumrah’s dominance with the ball and Mandhana’s match-winning knocks have made them standout performers on the international stage.

While India may have come up short in the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia, one name stood tall throughout — Jasprit Bumrah. The star pacer earned widespread praise for his phenomenal performances, with many experts crediting him for almost single-handedly keeping India competitive during the hard-fought series.

Bumrah claimed an astounding 32 wickets at an average of just 13.06, showcasing his consistency and class against a strong Australian batting lineup. His impact wasn’t limited to this series alone. Over the course of the last year, Bumrah took a remarkable 71 Test wickets, all while maintaining an impressive bowling average of under 15 — a testament to his dominance in red-ball cricket.

Despite the series result, Bumrah’s brilliance remains one of the biggest takeaways for Indian cricket fans, offering hope and inspiration for future overseas challenges.

Jasprit Bumrah Makes History: First Test Bowler with 200 Wickets at an Average Under 20, Stars in India’s T20 World Cup Triumph

India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has etched his name into the history books by becoming the first bowler in Test cricket to claim 200 wickets at an astonishing average of less than 20. This extraordinary milestone highlights Bumrah’s dominance and consistency in red-ball cricket, making him a once-in-a-generation talent.

But Bumrah’s brilliance didn’t stop there. In the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, he played a pivotal role in leading India to glory. His sensational performance in the final against South Africa—where he took 2 wickets for just 18 runs—was crucial in India sealing a dramatic victory. South Africa, at one point, required just 30 runs off the last 30 balls, but Bumrah’s precise and composed death bowling helped India apply an extraordinary chokehold and clinch the win.

Over the course of the tournament, Bumrah claimed 15 wickets in eight matches. What truly set him apart, however, was his stunning economy rate of just 4.17 and an average of 8.26—numbers that are almost unheard of in modern T20 cricket. These incredible figures earned him the prestigious Player of the Tournament award.

Jasprit Bumrah’s dual impact in both formats of the game continues to redefine fast bowling excellence and inspire the next generation of cricketers.

Smriti Mandhana Creates History with Record-Breaking Performances in 2024

Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana has etched her name in the record books with a phenomenal run across formats in 2024. Mandhana scored an impressive 1,659 runs in international cricket this calendar year — the highest ever by a woman cricketer in a single year.

In One Day Internationals (ODIs), she notched up four centuries — the most by any woman in a calendar year — further solidifying her dominance in the 50-over format. Her stellar form wasn’t limited to ODIs alone. In T20 Internationals, Mandhana broke the long-standing record of Suzie Bates for the most fifty-plus scores, showcasing her consistency and class.

She also finished the year with 763 runs in T20Is — the highest by any woman cricketer in a calendar year — adding yet another milestone to her extraordinary 2024 campaign.

Mandhana’s exceptional performances have not only set new benchmarks in women’s cricket but have also inspired a new generation of aspiring cricketers around the globe.
