In a separate incident, a fire broke out at Salsette Building No. 27, near New Grade Insta Mill on B.A. Road in Byculla East on February 28. The Fire Brigade (MFB) has categorized it as a Level-1 fire.
Last month, a fire broke out on the terrace of Fairmont Hotel, located near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s Terminal 2 in Vile Parle (East). Despite the hotel’s close proximity to the main runway, flight operations remained unaffected.
Thick, black smoke billowing from the site was visible from Mumbai’s air traffic control tower, raising concerns among authorities. Firefighters responded swiftly, evacuating around 70-80 people from various floors of the hotel. The blaze was successfully brought under control and fully extinguished by 6:50 PM. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
According to the fire brigade, the blaze was contained within the air conditioning unit and exhaust ducting, impacting an area of approximately 1,000 to 1,500 square feet on the terrace of the three-level basement, ground-plus-10-story building.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire originated from electrical cables within the fresh air intake and exhaust units. Officials suspect that a malfunctioning fan in one of the units may have been the cause of the incident.

Fire broke out in a 57-storey residential high-rise in Mumbai’s Byculla area on Friday morning, prompting a swift response from emergency services. More than 50 residents, stranded on the upper floors, were successfully rescued, officials confirmed.
The fire erupted around 10:45 AM on the 42nd floor of one of the twin towers of Salette 27 on Babasaheb Ambedkar Road, according to the fire brigade. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.
Authorities, including the Mumbai Fire Brigade, BEST civic utility teams, police, ambulance services, and other agencies, were mobilized immediately to contain the situation. After an intense firefighting operation lasting over two and a half hours, the blaze was extinguished around 1:10 PM.
