A tragic car crash in Vadodara, Gujarat, late Thursday night, has left one woman dead and four others injured. The incident occurred around 12:30 AM near Muktanand Cross Roads in the Karelibaug area, when a car driven by 23-year-old Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia allegedly crashed into multiple vehicles. Following the crash, Rakshit was arrested by local authorities. The car’s owner was also detained, and investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.

While Rakshit Chaurasia has denied allegations of drunk driving, eyewitnesses at the scene stated that he appeared intoxicated. Witnesses reported that he was seen shouting “another round, another round” as he exited the car. These observations raised suspicions of drunk driving, prompting the police to question him about the incident. However, Rakshit maintains that his actions were not caused by alcohol but by a loss of control due to potholes on the road.

Speaking to the media after the crash, Rakshit stated, “I was driving at a speed of 50 km/h when I lost control of the vehicle due to the potholes. There was a scooty and another car. I was not drunk. I want to meet the family members of the deceased because it was my fault. Whatever they wish should happen.” He expressed regret over the accident and emphasized that he would like to apologize to the victim’s family. Rakshit referred to the incident as a tragedy, calling his expression of sorrow an “understatement.”

In Vadodara Rakshit further clarified that he had not been partying prior to the crash. He explained that he had attended a local Holika Dahan ceremony, an annual Hindu tradition celebrated on the eve of Holi, and was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. “I did not attend any party. I went for Holika Dahan and was not drunk,” he said.

Despite his claims, police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident. Deputy Commissioner of Police Panna Momaya confirmed that the crash had occurred on a stretch of road known for its poor condition, with potholes that may have contributed to the loss of control. However, investigators are also exploring whether alcohol consumption played a role in the incident.

Police arrest the accused Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia, the driver of the speeding car that collided with multiple two-wheelers, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to several others, in Vadodara on Thursday night.(ANI)

The victim, a woman who was reportedly in one of the vehicles hit by Rakshit’s car, died at the scene. Four other individuals sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Authorities are now working to confirm the exact cause of the accident and determine the role alcohol may have played in it.

Rakshit’s statement regarding his desire to meet with the victim’s family has sparked a mixed reaction from the public. Some have criticized his attempt to distance himself from the possibility of drunk driving, while others have noted his apparent remorse for the incident. His desire to meet the family of the deceased suggests an understanding of the gravity of the situation and a wish to offer his apologies, though many believe that a deeper investigation is necessary to ensure full accountability.

The arrest of Rakshit Chaurasia and the car’s owner has brought attention to the ongoing issue of road safety in Vadodara and the challenges posed by poorly maintained roads. Potholes are a persistent problem in many parts of the city, and local authorities are under pressure to take action to improve infrastructure to prevent further accidents.

As the investigation progresses, police are expected to examine the evidence, including the results of any alcohol tests, to determine whether drunk driving was indeed a factor in the crash. While Rakshit’s claims may be sincere, eyewitness accounts and the condition of the road will play a crucial role in determining the final outcome of the investigation.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safe driving practices and the need for better road maintenance to ensure the safety of all road users. The community in Vadodara is left to cope with the loss of a life and the aftermath of a devastating crash, as authorities continue their efforts to understand the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
