Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that alleged fraudulent guarantees were provided by Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) for a twin tunnel project. The court found no substantial evidence to support the claims and ruled in favor of the infrastructure company.
The PIL, filed by an unnamed petitioner, claimed that MEIL had submitted falsified guarantees to secure the contract for the ambitious twin tunnel project. The project, a crucial infrastructure development aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity, is being executed under the aegis of the state government.
A division bench of Justices [Names of Judges] observed that the allegations lacked merit and failed to establish any prima facie case of fraud. Bombay
The court noted that the petitioner had not provided concrete proof to substantiate the claims and that the guarantees in question had undergone due diligence by the concerned authorities before project approval.

MEIL, a leading infrastructure company, welcomed the verdict, stating that the dismissal reaffirmed the integrity of their operations. A company spokesperson remarked, “We have always adhered to the highest standards of transparency and compliance. The court’s decision underscores our commitment to ethical business practices.”Bombay

The twin tunnel project is a significant undertaking, expected to enhance transportation efficiency and reduce travel time across key urban corridors. Despite the legal challenge, officials confirmed that construction will proceed as planned, with no anticipated delays due to the PIL.
Legal experts noted that the case highlights the importance of substantiating allegations with credible evidence before filing PILs, as frivolous claims can lead to unnecessary legal entanglements and project disruptions.
With the Bombay High Court’s ruling, MEIL can continue its work on the tunnel project without further legal impediments. The state government reiterated its support for the project, emphasizing its role in improving urban infrastructure and boosting economic development in the region.
