Pooja Hegde, who enjoys a massive fan following in the South Indian film industry, made her Bollywood debut in 2016 with the film Mohenjo Daro, starring opposite Hrithik Roshan. Since then, she has appeared in several notable Bollywood films, including Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Housefull 4, further solidifying her position in the Hindi film industry.
In a recent conversation with Bombay Times, the actress opened up about the challenges she faces as a female actor in the industry, particularly the issue of typecasting. She expressed how filmmakers often develop a set perception of actors, which can limit their opportunities, especially for women. “Filmmakers tend to have a certain perception about actors, especially female ones. We often get typecast easily,” she said.
Pooja emphasized the importance of auditions in breaking these stereotypes. She believes auditions provide a platform for actors to showcase sides of their talent that haven’t been explored before. “That’s why I feel it’s important to audition and showcase traits that haven’t been tapped into yet. It’s better to be considered for a role than to be overlooked,” she added. She also pointed out that some of the biggest stars in Hollywood still audition, which makes her question why it’s not as common in India.
Throughout her career, Pooja has made a significant impact in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi cinema, earning recognition as a Pan-Indian star. Her diverse roles across various regional industries have helped her build a well-rounded filmography.
On the professional front, Pooja is currently working on her Tamil film Retro, in which she stars alongside Suriya. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the movie is set to release on May 1, 2025. Additionally, she will be seen in the upcoming Hindi film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai with Varun Dhawan. Directed by David Dhawan, the release date for this film is yet to be announced. Pooja was last seen in Deva opposite Shahid Kapoor, although the film didn’t perform as expected at the box office.
Despite the ups and downs in her career, Pooja Hegde continues to take on new and exciting challenges, further cementing her place as one of the most versatile and sought-after actresses in the industry.
