As the Indian Premier League 2025 season progresses, the Mumbai Indians (MI) are set to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a highly anticipated clash at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium on Monday. This fixture brings together two teams with contrasting fortunes so far this season.
Under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, MI have struggled to find form, managing just one win in their first four matches. The five-time IPL champions currently occupy the eighth spot on the points table. Meanwhile, Rajat Patidar’s RCB have had a more promising start to the season, securing two wins from three games and holding third place with four points.
Jasprit Bumrah Returns to Boost MI Attack
Mumbai have received a major boost ahead of the match with the return of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. The star fast bowler has recovered from a lower back injury sustained after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and is expected to be included in the playing XI. His presence will strengthen an already potent pace unit featuring Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, and young pacer Ashwani Kumar — although Ashwani might be sidelined to make room for Bumrah. Vignesh Puthur is likely to be used as an Impact Substitute.
There remains uncertainty regarding Rohit Sharma’s availability, as he missed the previous match after sustaining a knee injury during a net session. A decision on his inclusion is expected closer to the match.
RCB Eye Consistency
Royal Challengers Bengaluru started their campaign strongly with back-to-back away wins against Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings. However, they suffered a setback in their last outing, losing by eight wickets to Gujarat Titans at home. Despite the loss, RCB are expected to field an unchanged XI, with their core performing consistently across departments.
