A passenger has taken to social media to accuse IndiGo Airlines of scamming travelers by allegedly using faulty weighing machines to show inflated baggage weights, resulting in unfair excess baggage charges. The viral post has triggered a wave of reactions from other flyers who claim to have had similar experiences with the budget carrier.

The disgruntled passenger shared a video comparing IndiGo’s baggage scale with other weighing machines at the airport, including one at a nearby airline counter and another at a public kiosk. The footage appears to show a significant difference in the displayed weight of the same bag—allegedly up to 3 kilograms more on IndiGo’s scale.

“Shame on @IndiGo6E for scamming passengers like this,” the user posted on “They charged me ₹1800 for 3kg excess, but when I weighed my bag on two other machines, the weight was well within the limit. How many people are being robbed like this daily?”

The post quickly went viral, garnering thousands of likes, retweets, and comments. Many users shared their own stories, with some alleging that they were also forced to pay excess baggage charges they later believed to be unjustified.

IndiGo Airlines has yet to release an official statement on the matter. However, the controversy has reignited a longstanding concern among Indian flyers regarding the accuracy and transparency of baggage weighing procedures at airports.

Consumer rights activists have also weighed in, calling for regulatory oversight. “This is a serious issue. If there are discrepancies in weighing machines, it needs to be addressed immediately. The airline must be held accountable if passengers are being charged unfairly,” said Anjali Rao, a spokesperson from the Consumer Travel Forum of India.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has not commented on the incident but is being urged by several consumer groups to investigate the matter and audit weighing equipment used by domestic airlines.

As social media continues to amplify the outrage, travelers are being advised to cross-check their luggage weight before heading to airline counters to avoid potential disputes and extra charges.
