In a significant counter-terrorism operation, Indian security forces have eliminated Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) commander Saifullah, also known as “Lamboo,” along with two other Pakistani terrorists in an encounter in Pulwama district. Saifullah was a close relative of JeM founder Masood Azhar and was implicated in the 2019 Pulwama attack that claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel.
The encounter took place in the upper reaches of the Dachigam forests in Pulwama. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint team comprising the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation in the area. Upon being challenged, the terrorists opened fire, leading to a fierce gunfight. All three militants were neutralized in the exchange.Jaish
Saifullah, also known by aliases such as Ismail, Adnan, and Fauji Bhai, was a key figure in JeM’s operations in the Kashmir Valley. He was believed to be one of the masterminds behind the 2019 Pulwama suicide bombing and had been involved in training local recruits in improvised explosive device (IED) fabrication and deployment. His elimination is considered a major blow to JeM’s operational capabilities in the region.
Lieutenant General D.P. Pandey, General Officer Commanding of the Chinar Corps, stated that Saifullah’s death brings a sense of closure to the victims of the Pulwama attack. He emphasized that Saifullah had been instrumental in recruiting and radicalizing youth, as well as orchestrating IED attacks against security forces. Jaish
Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Range) Vijay Kumar highlighted that Saifullah was the seventh militant involved in the Pulwama attack to be killed. He noted that out of the 19 individuals implicated in the attack, seven have been killed, seven arrested, and five remain at large.
The successful operation underscores the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence and joint operations among Indian security agencies. The elimination of a high-profile terrorist like Saifullah is expected to disrupt JeM’s activities and diminish its influence in the region.Jaish
Security forces continue to maintain heightened vigilance in the area to prevent any retaliatory actions and to ensure the safety of civilians.
