In a significant move aimed at bolstering national security, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has called on all Chief Ministers across India to identify and report illegal Pakistani nationals residing in their respective states. The directive was reportedly issued during a high-level virtual meeting convened by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), with state officials in attendance.
Sources indicate that the Home Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining internal security and preventing any unlawful activities that could be facilitated by foreigners living in the country without proper documentation. Shah urged the states to intensify their verification drives, particularly in border states and metropolitan areas where undocumented migrants are more likely to be present.
The Home Ministry has asked states to submit detailed reports of their findings within a stipulated time frame. Officials were also instructed to verify documents, monitor suspicious activities, and collaborate closely with local police and intelligence units.
This move has sparked political debate, with opposition parties questioning the timing and intent of the directive.
