Indian Army Responds Firmly to Ceasefire Violations by Pakistan Amid Rising Border Tensions
The Indian Army on Wednesday issued a strong and proportional response to continued ceasefire violations by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC), following heightened tensions in the aftermath of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.
According to an official statement, Pakistani Army posts initiated “unprovoked small-arms fire” during the night of April 29–30 across the LoC in the Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor sectors of Jammu & Kashmir. “Indian Army troops responded swiftly and proportionately,” the statement said.
Escalating Tensions Post-Pahalgam Attack
The ceasefire breaches come in the wake of the deadly terror strike in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives and injured several others. The incident has sharply escalated tensions between India and Pakistan, both nuclear-armed neighbours.
Pakistan has alleged that India is planning a military operation within the next 24–36 hours, citing “credible intelligence.” Pakistan’s Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, accused India of preparing for action based on “baseless and concocted allegations” regarding Pakistan’s involvement in the terror attack.
India’s Strategic Response
India has stepped up diplomatic and strategic pressure on Pakistan. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting with the top defence leadership, where he granted the armed forces “complete operational freedom” to determine the response to the Pahalgam attack—covering its mode, timing, and targets.
In addition, India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, signaling a shift in its diplomatic posture.
Earlier in the day, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan chaired a security review meeting, attended by the heads of three paramilitary forces and senior officials from key intelligence agencies.
Growing Ceasefire Violations
The frequency of ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the LoC has increased notably in recent weeks, prompting concerns over regional stability. The Indian Army continues to remain on high alert, emphasizing its commitment to national security and civilian protection in border areas.
