K Kavitha Takes Veiled Dig at Brother KTR Over Alleged BRS-BJP Merger Moves 2025

Ms. Kavitha, MLC and head of the women’s wing of Bharat Rashtra Samithi, plays a key leadership role alongside KTR, MLA and party working president since 2018.

Just days after declaring that her father and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) is like a god surrounded by devils, K. Kavitha has escalated the political drama by virtually accusing her brother, K.T. Rama Rao, of conspiring against her, attempting to sideline her, and pushing for a merger of the party with the BJP.

Ms. Kavitha alleged on Saturday that a private letter she had written to her father, former Telangana Chief Minister, had been deliberately leaked by some members within the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). In the letter, she criticized his speech at the party’s silver jubilee celebration in Warangal last month for not being critical enough of the BJP — a move that had fueled speculation about a potential alliance between the two parties.

Two weeks ago, I wrote a letter to KCR ji. I have shared my opinions with him through letters before. Recently, I mentioned that conspiracies are being hatched. Unfortunately, the letter I wrote in confidence became public. Now, all of us in the party, as well as the people of Telangana, need to reflect deeply on what is unfolding.

KCR ji is like a god to us. However, there are some negative influences around him causing significant harm. As KCR’s daughter, I feel deeply troubled. If the letter I wrote internally were to become public, it would surely spark a serious debate about the future of others within the party,” the BRS leader expressed with concern.

On Thursday, during an informal chat with reporters, Ms. Kavitha was noticeably more straightforward, indirectly blaming her brother KT Rama Rao (KTR) for what she views as a betrayal and an effort to marginalize her.

Ms. Kavitha, a Member of the Legislative Council, leads the women’s wing of the BRS. Meanwhile, KTR, an MLA and former Telangana minister, has served as the party’s working president since 2018—a position she was also reportedly interested in.

Ms. Kavitha revealed that during her imprisonment from March to August last year, related to the Delhi liquor policy case, there were efforts by some members within the party to align with the BJP. She stated that she had strongly opposed this idea.

In a fresh attack on KTR, who is widely seen as the head of the BRS’s social media operations, Ms. Kavitha voiced her disappointment over the BRS leadership’s silence on several critical matters. She specifically highlighted the lack of response regarding the notice served to KCR by the Justice PC Ghose Commission, which is investigating alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme.

The scheme, the world’s largest multi-stage lift irrigation project, was conceived and executed by the BRS during its nearly decade-long rule in Telangana, from the state’s formation in 2014 until 2023, when it was defeated by the Congress.

Ms. Kavitha wondered why the party had not planned any protests and why only Telangana Jagruti, the cultural wing she leads, had announced an agitation on June 3—two days before KCR is scheduled to appear before the panel.

Why is the BRS remaining silent even after bulldozers were sent to the homes of our leaders by the Congress government? Simply posting tweets won’t strengthen the party. To survive, we need to take to the streets and agitate,” she said, seemingly taking a jab at KTR.

She questioned why the BRS remains silent even after bulldozers were sent to the homes of their leaders by the Congress government. “Posting tweets won’t strengthen the party. We need to agitate to survive,” she said, seemingly taking a dig at KTR.

Taking another jab, she added, “What good will come from hiring paid artists to speak against ‘inti aadabidda’ (a woman from your own family)? When I offered to resign from both the party and the MLC post, KCR himself persuaded me to stay,” she revealed.

Ms. Kavitha, a Member of the Legislative Council, leads the women’s wing of the BRS. Meanwhile, KTR, an MLA and former Telangana minister, has served as the party’s working president since 2018—a position she was also reportedly interested in.

Sources revealed that the BRS leader felt let down by KTR and the party for not activating their social media team to rally support for her and defend her when she was accused and eventually imprisoned in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scandal.

Another point of contention for her was the silver jubilee celebrations in Warangal, where only posters of KCR and KTR were displayed. “She interpreted this as a clear sign of being sidelined, with KTR being positioned as the party’s next chief,” said an insider.

esponding to the controversy surrounding the leaked letter, Ms. Kavitha clarified that when she described KCR as being surrounded by “devils,” a more accurate term would be “coverts,” referring to individuals within the BRS who were secretly advancing the agendas of rival parties.

She questioned, “What mistake have I made? I want to know who leaked that letter. It was intended solely for internal communication, and my team was not responsible for the leak.

Ms. Kavitha said she had been writing letters to KCR for 25 years, and this was the first time he didn’t respond. “He used to tear up the letters after reading them every time. But this time, he didn’t — maybe that was my mistake.

I have never worked for positions. KCR gave me the opportunity to serve as an MLC. I only asked to be reappointed as the in-charge for the Nizamabad constituency,” she said, referring to her defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Nizamabad. Sources close to Ms. Kavitha had earlier claimed that some BRS leaders had conspired to ensure her loss.
