Floods and landslides in Assam have claimed 11 lives and impacted more than 5.15 lakh people across several districts. Relief operations are in progress, with shelters set up for those displaced. Meanwhile, Manipur and Sikkim are also grappling with extreme weather conditions, triggering swift government action.

Severe flooding has impacted lakhs of people across several districts in Assam, Sikkim, and Manipur, causing extensive damage to homes and infrastructure. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and Manipur Governor Ajay Bhalla, assuring them of full central support and assistance in relief and recovery efforts.

The death toll in Assam due to floods and landslides has risen to 11, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). Of these, six fatalities were caused by flooding, while five others lost their lives in landslides. More than 5.15 lakh people across 22 districts have been affected by the ongoing floods, which have inundated 254 villages across 65 revenue circles in Assam. The impacted districts include Hailakandi, Hojai, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Sribhumi, Karbi Anglong, Dibrugarh, Morigaon, Kamrup, Cachar, Golaghat, Darrang, Majuli, Dhemaji, Biswanath, Kamrup (M), Karbi Anglong West, Jorhat, Tinsukia, Sonitpur, Dima Hasao, and Sivasagar.
Sribhumi remains the worst-hit district, with over 1.94 lakh people affected. Other severely impacted districts include Cachar (77,961), Nagaon (67,880), Lakhimpur (47,127), Hailakandi (30,234), Dibrugarh (20,179), and Tinsukia (19,289).
Approximately 185,000 individuals have taken shelter in 322 relief camps and distribution centers set up by district authorities in flood-affected regions.

Manipur Floods Affect Over 56,000 People
Flash floods triggered by overflowing rivers and breached embankments have severely impacted Manipur, affecting more than 56,000 residents. According to an official statement, 10,477 houses have been damaged, and a total of 56,516 people have been affected by the flooding, PTI reported.
On Monday, one person went missing after being swept away by a river in the Imphal East district, where flooding has forced the evacuation of 2,913 residents. Several areas in Imphal, the state capital, and parts of Imphal East have been inundated following the breach of embankments by swollen rivers in Khurai, Heingang, and Checkon.
In Sikkim, heavy rainfall triggered a landslide near Lachen town in Mangan district around 7 pm on Sunday. The landslide struck a military camp at Chhaten, resulting in the deaths of three army personnel, while six soldiers remain missing, according to officials.
A catastrophic landslide struck the area after intense and continuous rainfall, resulting in the deaths of three combatants: Havaldar Lakhwinder Singh, Lance Naik Munish Thakur, and Porter Abhishek Lakhada, according to an official statement. Rescue teams are working tirelessly under difficult conditions to find six personnel who are still missing.
At least 57 relief camps have been set up to assist those affected, with the majority located in Imphal East district, the hardest-hit area in the state. Over the past five days, the state has witnessed 93 landslides.
Furthermore, according to DGP Akshay Sachdeva, 1,678 tourists stranded in the towns of Lachung and Chungthang in North Sikkim due to rain-induced landslides have been evacuated, although more than 100 tourists remain stranded in Lachen.
