Raj Thackeray Slams Media Over "False Reports" of Sena UBT-MNS Alliance 2025

MNS chief Raj Thackeray strongly criticized the media for spreading false reports about a potential alliance between Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS ahead of Maharashtra elections. Read what he said and why he’s accusing the media of biased journalism.

Raj Thackeray Blasts Media Over ‘Misreporting’ of Sena UBT-MNS Alliance Rumours

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has lashed out at sections of the Indian media for allegedly “spreading misinformation” about a potential political alliance between his party and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction – UBT). The remarks came after speculation grew in political circles and news reports hinted at a possible MNS-Sena UBT tie-up ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Speaking at a press conference, Thackeray questioned the integrity of journalism today and accused certain media houses of intentionally creating confusion to suit specific political narratives.

Over the past few weeks, several media outlets published reports suggesting that Uddhav Thackeray might consider joining forces with his estranged cousin Raj Thackeray in an attempt to consolidate Marathi Manoos votes. Some headlines even went as far as claiming that talks between the two parties were already underway.

Raj Thackeray, however, rubbished these claims, stating:

“What kind of new journalism is this? Who gave you the authority to create imaginary political equations? Have you verified anything with us?”

His statements reflect growing dissatisfaction among political leaders over the role of the media in shaping narratives without verified facts.

A New Kind of Journalism” – Raj Thackeray’s Sharp Critique

Raj Thackeray didn’t hold back as he condemned what he called a “new kind of journalism” that thrives on sensationalism, speculation, and misinformation. He stressed the importance of journalistic ethics and accused reporters of prioritizing TRPs over truth.

He further said:

“The public has the right to accurate information, not convenient lies dressed as breaking news. Media must be accountable.”

Thackeray also warned media outlets against becoming tools of political propaganda, suggesting that biased coverage undermines democracy and voter trust.

Political Implications of Sena UBT-MNS Rumours

Though both Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS emerge from the same ideological roots – built around regional pride and Marathi identity – their political paths and loyalties have diverged significantly. Uddhav Thackeray now leads the opposition bloc Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), while Raj Thackeray has leaned closer to the BJP in recent years, albeit not formally allied.

The rumors of a possible reunion between the Thackeray cousins could have had a major impact on the electoral dynamics in Mumbai and other urban centers of Maharashtra. However, Raj Thackeray’s strong denial signals no such move is on the cards.

Raj Thackeray’s remarks once again bring to the forefront the crisis of credibility facing Indian journalism. In an age of clickbait headlines, viral misinformation, and agenda-driven reporting, politicians, activists, and even citizens are demanding greater transparency and responsibility from the media.

Experts believe this incident may ignite conversations around:

  • The need for regulation or self-regulation in media
  • Stricter fact-checking practices
  • Protecting the right to reputation of individuals and political entities

While Raj Thackeray has outright denied the possibility of any alliance, sources within Shiv Sena (UBT) have responded more diplomatically. Party insiders stated that while no talks have taken place, they remain open to all democratic forces opposing the BJP.

This non-committal stance has further fueled speculation, though both camps have made no formal announcements to support or deny any alliance talks apart from Raj Thackeray’s press conference.

The dust is far from settling in Maharashtra politics. With elections approaching, media speculation, political posturing, and public sentiment will continue to shape the narrative. However, Raj Thackeray’s stern message to the media serves as a reminder of the power and responsibility that journalism holds in a democratic society.

While the possibility of a Sena UBT-MNS alliance may remain nothing more than a rumor for now, the controversy has opened up an important debate on media ethics, political transparency, and the credibility crisis in Indian journalism.
