Mumbai was hit by heavy rainfall on Monday, 21 July 2025, in line with the weather agency’s forecast of thunderstorms and rain expected over the next 48 hours. In response, airlines have issued travel advisories, urging passengers to plan ahead due to potential disruptions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted increased rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in Mumbai over the next two days. In response, airlines including IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air have issued travel advisories to help passengers navigate potential delays or disruptions on Monday.

IndiGo Issues Travel Update:
Despite the easing of rainfall in Mumbai, IndiGo has alerted passengers via platform X that certain areas of the city continue to experience delays due to earlier heavy downpours. Travelers are advised to check for updates before heading to the airport.

The airline has advised passengers to leave for the airport well ahead of their usual schedule, citing potential travel disruptions. It also urged travelers to check their flight status for any last-minute updates or delays.

With heavy rains taking hold across Mumbai, some areas are already experiencing traffic delays,” IndiGo said in an official update on X. “If you’re heading to the airport, we advise leaving earlier than usual and checking your flight status on our app or website.”

The airline also reassured travelers that its airport staff is fully prepared and available to assist, aiming to ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey despite the challenging weather conditions.

SpiceJet Issues Travel Advisory Amid Mumbai Airport Congestion

India’s budget airline SpiceJet has issued a travel advisory alerting passengers to potential delays at Mumbai airport due to air traffic congestion on Monday.

The airline cautioned that both arriving and departing flights, as well as subsequent connections, could be impacted. Passengers have been urged to monitor their flight status regularly for real-time updates.

“We are currently experiencing ATC (Air Traffic Control) congestion at Mumbai. Departures, arrivals, and connecting flights may be affected. Passengers are advised to check their flight status for any updates,” SpiceJet announced on X.

Akasa Air Issues Travel Advisory for Mumbai Passengers

Akasa Air has issued a travel advisory warning passengers about potential delays due to increased traffic and congestion en route to Mumbai airport. Travelers are advised to plan extra travel time to avoid missing their flights.

Additionally, the airline has alerted passengers about Air Traffic Control (ATC) congestion at Mumbai airport, which may impact both arrivals and departures, along with connecting flights.

“We are currently experiencing ATC congestion at Mumbai. This may affect all departures, arrivals, and subsequent flights. Passengers are advised to regularly check their flight status,” the airline said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Air India Flight Skids Off Runway in Mumbai Amid Heavy Rain

Air India’s flight AI2744 from Kochi to Mumbai veered off the runway during landing on Monday, 21 July 2025, due to heavy rainfall. The aircraft experienced a runway excursion after touchdown but was safely taxied to the gate.

All passengers and crew disembarked without injury, and the aircraft has been grounded for detailed safety inspections.

According to reports, both pilots operating the flight have been de-rostered pending investigation. An Air India spokesperson confirmed the incident and assured that necessary safety checks are underway.
