Ekta Kapoor Responds to Ban on ALTT, Clarifies Disassociation
Following the government’s ban on ALTT, ULLU, and 23 other OTT platforms for allegedly hosting vulgar and obscene content, producer Ekta Kapoor has issued a clarification. In a statement shared on Instagram, Ekta stated that she and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, are no longer connected to ALTT in any way. She emphasized that they had officially stepped down from all associations with the platform back in June 2021.
Balaji Telefilms Limited, a professionally managed media company listed on the BSE and NSE, clarifies that following the approved amalgamation of ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. (formerly its wholly owned subsidiary) by the Hon’ble NCLT, it has been operating ALTT directly since June 20, 2025.”
Ekta Clarifies Disassociation from ALTT
Ekta Kapoor has clarified that neither she nor Shobha Kapoor has any connection with ALTT. Responding to recent media reports suggesting that ALTT was disabled by authorities, she stated:
“Contrary to circulating reports, both Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not associated with ALTT in any capacity. They officially stepped down from their involvement with the platform in June 2021. Any suggestion otherwise is completely false. We urge the media to report verified and accurate information.”

Government Orders Ban on 25 OTT Platforms for Obscene Content
The Indian government has directed the blocking of websites and mobile applications associated with 25 OTT platforms for allegedly hosting obscene, vulgar, and, in some cases, pornographic content. The platforms identified for violating various laws include popular names such as ALTT, ULLU, and Desiflix.
Other banned platforms include:
Big Shots App, Boomex, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, Jalva App, ShowHit, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hitprime, Feneo, ShowX, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulchul App, MoodX, NeonX VIP, Fugi, Mojflix, and Triflicks.
Officials stated that the action was taken in view of public complaints and legal violations related to inappropriate and sexually explicit content.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting took the action in consultation with the Ministries of Home Affairs, Women and Child Development, Electronics and IT, and Law, along with industry bodies like FICCI and CII, as well as experts in women and child rights.”
Notifications have been issued to various intermediaries under the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the IT Rules, 2021, directing them to disable access to the identified websites and applications. According to officials, the content on these platforms featured sexual innuendos and extended scenes of sexually explicit material that lacked any coherent storyline, thematic depth, or socially relevant message.
Over the past year, the government has received complaints about these platforms from both the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and members of the public.
Earlier in May, the web series House Arrest was removed from the Ullu platform following intervention by the Ministry. Officials stated that back in September of the previous year, all 25 streaming platforms were directed to stop publishing content deemed obscene, vulgar, or pornographic. However, many continued to violate these guidelines. Authorities also noted that five platforms previously blocked in March 2024 had resumed distributing objectionable content by launching new website domains.
