LPG Cylinder Prices Increased by ₹50 for All Consumers Effective April 8
New Delhi, April 7: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has announced a ₹50 hike in the price of 14.2 kg LPG cylinders, effective from April 8. The revision will apply to both subsidised consumers under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) and non-subsidised domestic users.
Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri confirmed the price increase on Monday. Following the revision, the price for PMUY beneficiaries will rise from ₹500 to ₹550 per cylinder, while other domestic consumers will see an increase from ₹803 to ₹853 per cylinder.
The minister noted that LPG prices undergo periodic review every two to three weeks, in line with global market trends.
This development comes shortly after a reduction in commercial LPG prices. On April 1, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder was cut by ₹41, bringing the retail price in Delhi to ₹1,762 per unit.
India imports approximately 60% of its LPG requirements, and domestic prices are closely linked to international benchmarks. The government had previously shielded PMUY consumers from global price volatility by offering subsidies, with the effective price for this group reduced by 44% between August 2023 and February 2025, despite a 63% surge in international LPG prices during the same period.
As of March 1, 2025, the number of PMUY beneficiaries has reached 10.33 crore, while the total number of active domestic LPG consumers across the country stands at 32.94 crore.
Prior to this hike, domestic LPG cylinder prices had remained unchanged since August 2024.\
