The updated Aadhaar mobile app now offers instant verification through QR codes and real-time facial recognition for enhanced security and seamless user authentication.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday unveiled the much-anticipated Aadhaar app. The new app is designed to offer enhanced accessibility and robust security features, ensuring a more user-friendly experience for citizens across the country.

In a recent announcement on X (formerly Twitter), the Union Minister introduced a groundbreaking mobile application that brings Aadhaar services closer to Indian citizens. The app leverages cutting-edge technologies like Face ID authentication and artificial intelligence (AI) to provide a secure and user-friendly digital Aadhaar experience on smartphones.

A new app, developed in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), is set to revolutionize identity verification in India. This cutting-edge application features QR code-based instant verification along with real-time facial recognition for authentication, ensuring a fast, secure, and paperless experience.

With this technology, users no longer need to carry physical Aadhaar photocopies or cards, simplifying everyday processes such as KYC, identity checks, and access to government or private services.

Aadhaar verification becomes as simple as making a UPI payment, Vaishnaw said in a post on X

New Aadhaar App Identity Verification for Indians

The upcoming Aadhar mobile app is poised to make everyday life much easier for Indians. With this digital solution, citizens will no longer need to carry a physical Aadhar card or submit photocopies for identity verification while traveling, checking into hotels, or even shopping. Everything will be accessible right from your smartphone.

Currently in its Beta testing phase, the app is expected to roll out nationwide soon. Once launched, it will offer a more secure, convenient, and contactless way to authenticate your identity—anytime, anywhere.

In a major digital leap for identity verification, individuals will no longer need to hand over physical photocopies of their Aadhar card at hotel receptions, shops, or while traveling. Thanks to a newly introduced Aadhaar app, users can now verify their identity through a simple QR code scan.

The app offers a secure and 100% digital way to share Aadhaar details—only with the user’s consent. “There is no need to physically hand over your Aadhaar photocopy anymore. The Aadhaar App is fully digital, secure, and consent-based,” said the Minister.

With the new Aadhaar app, users will be allowed to share only the necessary data, giving them complete control over their personal information.

Verification will be as simple as a UPI payment

The new Aadhar app is set to revolutionize identity verification in India by introducing a dual-layered system — Face ID-based authentication along with a QR code verification feature. This enhancement promises to make Aadhaar verification quicker, more secure, and highly efficient.

Much like how UPI QR codes have become a common sight at payment points across India, Aadhar QR codes will soon be available at various ‘Points of Authentication’. These will allow users to verify their identity in seconds.

All it takes is a simple scan — users can scan the QR code using the Aadhaar app, and their face will be instantly matched for verification. The Aadhaar ID is then securely shared directly from the individual’s device, eliminating the need for paper copies or photocopies, ensuring privacy and safety.

This move is expected to streamline the identity verification process across sectors, while also empowering users with better control over their personal data.

A newly launched app, currently undergoing beta testing, has been built with a strong focus on user privacy and data protection. Designed to ensure that Aadhar information cannot be forged, altered, or misused, the app only shares data securely and with the user’s explicit consent.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted Aadhar as the “aadhaar” — the foundational pillar — behind numerous government digital initiatives. He further stressed the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in shaping India’s digital future.

Encouraging innovation and collaboration, Vaishnaw invited stakeholders to propose ways of integrating AI with DPI to accelerate development while upholding the core principle of user privacy.
