Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled 44 development projects worth ₹3,880 crore in Varanasi, aimed at boosting infrastructure, enhancing rural development, strengthening power supply, and promoting urban beautification across the city.

In Short

  • PM to inaugurate of 44 projects worth Rs 3,880 crore in Kashi
  • Projects include drinking water schemes, anganwadis and more
  • PM to spend 2.5 hours with grand welcome planned by the BJP

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, on Friday, marking his 50th visit to the sacred city since assuming office in 2014. During the visit, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 44 development projects, with a total estimated value of ₹3,880 crore.

The Prime Minister arrived at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport and proceeded to Mehdiganj, where he addressed a public gathering. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed PM Modi and joined him in highlighting the government’s development initiatives in the region.

These projects span multiple sectors, including infrastructure, urban development, and public welfare, further solidifying Varanasi’s transformation under Modi’s leadership.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to deliver a public address on the Ring Road, strategically located outside the city limits of Varanasi. This location has been chosen to ensure greater accessibility for rural attendees while also minimizing the effects of the summer heat and avoiding traffic congestion within the city.

During his visit, PM Modi inaugurated a series of impactful development projects, with a strong emphasis on rural upliftment. Key highlights include:

  • 130 Drinking Water Schemes to improve access to clean and safe drinking water in villages
  • 100 Newly Constructed Anganwadi Centres for child care and early education
  • 356 Public Libraries to promote literacy and learning across rural areas
  • A Polytechnic College in Pindra to boost skill development
  • A Government Degree College to expand higher education opportunities

In the law enforcement sector, the Prime Minister inaugurated a Transit Hostel at the Police Lines, new police barracks in Ramnagar, and four newly constructed rural roads to enhance connectivity and security infrastructure.

Urban development in Varanasi is also receiving a significant push. The Prime Minister unveiled beautification projects at Shastri Ghat and Samne Ghat, along with major initiatives spearheaded by the Railways and the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA), aimed at transforming the city’s landscape and improving urban amenities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stones for a series of transformative infrastructure projects, with 25 of them valued at ₹2,250 crore. A significant focus is on enhancing the city’s power infrastructure. The upcoming developments include the construction of 15 new power substations, installation of high-capacity transformers, and the laying of 1,500 kilometers of new power lines. Notably, a 220 kV substation near Chaukaghat is planned to ensure an uninterrupted 24-hour power supply.

In addition to energy sector upgrades, the Prime Minister will kickstart work on three new flyovers and several road-widening projects, aiming to ease urban traffic congestion. The initiative also includes school renovation projects and the construction of two new stadiums—one in Shivpur and another at UP College.

Furthermore, the expansion of the city’s airport infrastructure will gain momentum, with tunnel-laying work set to begin to support the upcoming development phases.

These projects reflect the government’s strong push towards modernizing urban infrastructure and improving the quality of life for citizens.

Strict protocols will be followed at the venue, with thorough checking and frisking of all attendees, including along VIP routes, before granting entry.

BJP City President Pradeep Agrahari revealed that the Prime Minister is expected to spend approximately two and a half hours in Varanasi. Party workers are preparing a warm and traditional welcome with the blowing of conches, beating of drums, and a shower of flowers at various key points. Additionally, the city has been adorned with hoardings and posters celebrating the PM’s visit.
