In a move to restore peace and order in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, the state government has deployed 17 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). This deployment follows recent unrest linked to protests over the controversial Waqf Act, which has led to violent clashes and resulted in the deaths of three individuals.
The decision to bring in the CAPF came after the Calcutta High Court intervened, stressing the need for swift action to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of residents in the area. The protests, sparked by concerns over the Waqf Act, escalated quickly, and authorities were forced to act decisively to prevent the situation from worsening.
The Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal has assured the public that the situation is now under control, with security forces working diligently to maintain law and order. The police have been deployed in sensitive areas, with additional forces keeping a close watch on any potential flare-ups.
Authorities have also emphasized that normalcy is gradually returning to the region, with schools, markets, and businesses beginning to reopen after the unrest. However, the deployment of the CAPF will continue until the situation is completely stabilized.
