In a move to restore peace and order in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, the state government has deployed 17 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). This deployment follows recent unrest linked to protests over the controversial Waqf Act, which has led to violent clashes and resulted in the deaths of three individuals.

The decision to bring in the CAPF came after the Calcutta High Court intervened, stressing the need for swift action to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of residents in the area. The protests, sparked by concerns over the Waqf Act, escalated quickly, and authorities were forced to act decisively to prevent the situation from worsening.
The Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal has assured the public that the situation is now under control, with security forces working diligently to maintain law and order. The police have been deployed in sensitive areas, with additional forces keeping a close watch on any potential flare-ups.

Authorities have also emphasized that normalcy is gradually returning to the region, with schools, markets, and businesses beginning to reopen after the unrest. However, the deployment of the CAPF will continue until the situation is completely stabilized.

The West Bengal government has also assured citizens that no stone will be left unturned in maintaining public safety. Community leaders and residents have called for calm, urging individuals to refrain from violence and to allow law enforcement to handle the situation.CAPF

The unrest in Murshidabad has raised concerns over the broader implications of the Waqf Act protests, especially in districts where tensions have been running high. With security forces now in place, authorities hope to prevent the spread of unrest to other parts of the state.
As the situation continues to unfold, the state and central governments remain committed to working together to ensure peace and restore confidence in public safety.
