Mumbai-Manmad Panchavati Express Becomes India’s First Train to Feature Onboard ATM
In a groundbreaking move aimed at enhancing passenger convenience, the Mumbai-Manmad Panchavati Express has become the first train in India to offer an ATM onboard.
The ATM has been installed inside an air-conditioned coach and has already completed a successful trial run. This new facility allows passengers to withdraw cash even while the train is in motion, marking a major step in improving financial accessibility during travel.
This initiative is part of Indian Railways’ Innovative and Non-Fare Revenue Ideas Scheme (INFRIS), which encourages novel revenue-generation methods and passenger amenities. The onboard ATM was introduced through a collaboration between the Bhusawal division of Indian Railways and the Bank of Maharashtra.
Railway officials have confirmed that the ATM functioned smoothly during the trial, providing uninterrupted service to passengers throughout most of the journey. However, there were brief network issues noted in the Igatpuri-Kasara stretch, an area known for poor signal coverage due to tunnels and limited mobile connectivity.
Commenting on the development, Ity Pandey, Divisional Railway Manager of Bhusawal, said:
“The results were good. People will now be able to withdraw cash while travelling. We will keep monitoring the performance of the machine.” With this innovative service,

In a groundbreaking move to enhance passenger convenience, the Bhusawal division of Indian Railways has introduced the country’s first ATM facility onboard a train, now available on the popular Panchvati Express.
According to MPandey, the idea was initially proposed during an INFRIS (Innovation in Railways) meeting held by the Bhusawal division. “Once the suggestion was made, the team quickly began working on how to make it a reality,” she shared.
The ATM has been installed inside an air-conditioned coach, but thanks to the train’s vestibule connections, it is accessible to passengers from all 22 coaches of the Panchvati Express.
What sets this innovation apart is its versatility. In addition to cash withdrawals, passengers can also use the ATM to order cheque books and receive account statements, offering a full banking experience while on the move.
Even more impressive, the same ATM facility is also being made available on the Mumbai-Hingoli Jan Shatabdi Express, which shares the same rake with the Panchvati Express. This means passengers on the longer Mumbai-Hingoli route will also benefit from the same services.
To ensure maximum safety and security, the ATM is equipped with a shutter system and 24×7 CCTV monitoring.
Railway officials have hinted that if the facility is well-received, the service could soon be expanded to more trains across the network.
This marks a major step forward in modernizing rail travel in India and offering enhanced value-added services to passengers.
